What are soundproof window inserts?
Soundproof window inserts are specialized glass panels, measuring 1/4 inch in thickness, designed to be installed between your existing window inserts and window inserts treatments. These inserts don't require any modifications to your current window inserts. We offer three types: operating inserts that function like regular sliding windows, single-piece removable panels, and two-piece inserts with separate upper and lower panels. Each type is designed to meet different needs and preferences, balancing factors such as cost, ease of use, and effectiveness in sound reduction. All our inserts come with a lifetime warranty for as long as you own your home.
How do soundproof window inserts work?
Effective soundproofing relies on three key elements: sufficient mass, an adequate air gap, and a robust seal. Our inserts use 1/4 inch thick acoustic glass, which provides the necessary mass to absorb sound waves. We aim for a minimum 2-inch air gap between the insert and your existing window to trap sound waves. Lastly, our inserts create a tight seal with an infiltration rate of less than .01 cfm/linear foot, meeting international energy conservation standards. This combination of features significantly reduces noise transmission, creating a quieter indoor environment. Why don't standard double-pane replacement window inserts block much sound?
Standard double-pane window inserts are primarily designed for energy efficiency rather than sound reduction. They typically lack the necessary mass, air gap, and seal required for effective soundproofing. These window inserts usually consist of two thin glass panes with a small gap filled with inert gas, which is insufficient for blocking sound. Additionally, the spaces around the sashes, which allow for easy operation, create weak points for sound transmission. Some manufacturers now produce specialized soundproof replacement windows to address both sound and energy concerns.
How do soundproof window inserts compare to soundproof replacement windows or triple-pane windows?
Soundproof replacement window inserts, including triple-pane varieties, are specifically engineered for noise reduction. They often incorporate laminated glass, similar to our inserts. However, their effectiveness is limited by the standard wall thickness, which restricts the air gap size. Typically, these window inserts achieve an STC (Sound Transmission Class) rating of 38-40. In comparison, our soundproof window inserts offer a higher STC rating of 48, while generally costing about half as much as soundproof replacement window inserts. This makes our inserts a more cost-effective solution for noise reduction.
How long does it take for you to install them?
For most residential properties, installation can be completed in a day or less. Commercial installations vary depending on the size and complexity of the project. Small retail spaces typically require one to two days, while office installations can range from a day to a week. Larger projects, such as hotels, may take up to three weeks to complete. We strive to minimize disruption to your daily activities during the installation process. What do soundproof window inserts look like after they are installed?
Our soundproof window inserts are designed to be as unobtrusive as possible. From the interior, they feature a slim frame less than an inch wide, making them barely noticeable. From the exterior, they are completely invisible. We offer standard frame colors including white, ivory, light grey, and dark bronze. If these don't match your existing window frames, we can paint them to ensure a close match, seamlessly integrating with your current window aesthetics. How long do they last?
Our soundproof window inserts are built for longevity. The materials we use have demonstrated durability in real-world conditions for over four decades without significant degradation. We're so confident in their durability that we offer a lifetime warranty for as long as you own your home. This warranty is even transferable when you sell your property, providing added value and peace of mind for future homeowners. Can you make arches and other non-rectangular window shapes?
Yes, we have the capability to custom-manufacture window inserts for a wide variety of shapes and sizes. This includes arched windows and other non-rectangular designs. Our team is experienced in creating tailored solutions to fit unique window configurations, ensuring that even the most distinctive windows in your home can benefit from our soundproofing technology. Can you soundproof sliding-glass patio doors?
We offer two solutions for soundproofing sliding-glass patio doors. The first option is our standard window insert, which can be removed each time you need to use the door. While effective, this may be inconvenient for frequently used doors. Our second option is an additional laminated glass sliding door, which maintains the functionality of your existing patio door while providing superior soundproofing. This solution allows for convenient use while significantly reducing noise transmission. Will I still be able to use my window insert treatments?
In most cases, we can install our window inserts behind your existing window treatments, allowing you to keep them within the window opening. If necessary, we can reposition your window treatments to the upper edge of the window opening, usually at no additional cost. However, some exceptions may apply for specialized treatments such as motorized blinds/shades, custom valances, or blinds embedded in existing window glass. We'll work with you to find the best solution that maintains both the functionality of your window treatments and the effectiveness of our soundproofing inserts.
